This is my signature Rumba Detox Smoothie that I start every day with.
This smoothie is detoxifying, anti-inflammatory, cancer-fighting and anti-ageing. It is rich in potassium which aids healthy neurological function, and other immunity-boosting vitamins which makes it perfect for those suffering from auto-immune conditions. It is high in fibre and hydrating electrolytes which make it excellent for flushing toxins out of the body. It could aid healthy weight-loss, help cure a hang-over and even be used to help treat kidney stones and cancer.
Spinach or Kale: These leafy greens are full of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals, extremely high nutritional value and rich in antioxidants. They are a great source of vitamins A, B2, C and K, and also contain magnesium, manganese, iron, calcium, potassium and folate which helps with cognitive function so can ease brain-fog. The high fibre content makes them excellent for aiding digestion and elimination. These healthy greens are also great cancer fighters and anti-agers, take your pick or grab a bit of both.
Cucumber: Excellent for rehydration and detoxification, this juicy marrow is full of skin-friendly minerals and boosts immunity and energy. I usually use 1/3 of a large cucumber in each smoothie. If it is organic then just pop it in skin on, but if not always peel it, non-organic cucumbers are often heavily waxed and laden with pesticides and other chemicals. Cucumber is alkalizing, cancer-fighting, and aids healthy weight loss. Its anti-inflammatory benefits are known to significantly benefit autoimmune and neurological disorders such as ME/CFS, Lupus, Psoriasis, Arthritis,Fibromyalgia and more.
Celery: This detoxifying vegetable is anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial, meaning that it will fight pain and infection in your body while cleansing your system of toxins. It contains Polyacetlynes which have immune-boosting effects, including tumour-fighting abilities that can stop mutated cancer cells from proliferating!
Lemon or Lime juice: Lemons are the ultimate detox ingredient. They provide the perfect vitamin-rich alkalizing boost to get your digestive system in gear first thing in the morning. Limes also have many of the same benefits and I find that for this particular recipe the taste is a bit better, but either will do. Lemons and Limes remove toxins from the body and supplement the body with immunity-boosting vitamins and minerals.
Coconut Water: Contains five essential electrolytes that are present in the human body: calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and sodium. This delicious nectar makes the smoothie taste amazing, it is high in natural sugars so I only fill it half way and top the rest up with filtered or mineral water.
Drink this every morning on an empty stomach before breakfast to help your energy levels increase, your skin get clearer and your pains fade away. Or enjoy throughout the day on the go to keep your snack cravings at bay.
